FAQ
Frequently asked questions about digital time tracking
Answers to common questions about YellowTime, the 2026 time tracking obligation, GDPR and NFC time tracking for teams in Germany.
What is the simplest time tracking software for SMEs in Germany?+
YellowTime is a deliberately simple digital time tracking solution for small and medium-sized businesses in Germany. Create an account, invite employees, install the app – most small companies are up and running in under 10 minutes, without an IT department and without training.
Does YellowTime meet the 2026 time tracking obligation and the ECJ ruling?+
Yes. YellowTime records the start, end, duration and breaks of every working time electronically and tamper-proof – in line with the ECJ ruling of 14 May 2019 (C-55/18), § 16 ArbZG and the planned Working Time Recording Act. Timesheets can be exported as PDF or CSV in an audit-proof manner at any time.
Is YellowTime GDPR-compliant and is data stored in Germany?+
Yes. Employee data is stored encrypted on European servers. Role and permission management, a data processing agreement (DPA) and deletion concepts in accordance with the GDPR are included by default. Yellow Time Germany GmbH is based in Magdeburg – Made in Germany.
How does NFC time tracking work for field teams?+
An NFC sticker on the property, at the customer site or on the construction container is scanned with the smartphone – the shift starts without a login. Combined with GPS geofencing, this ensures that bookings are only possible at the actual location. Tamper-proof and also usable offline.
How does YellowTime differ from Personio, Lexware or Clockin?+
Personio is a comprehensive HR suite, Lexware is designed for accounting, Clockin and Timr target large companies. YellowTime is the deliberately simple counterpart: focused on time tracking, usable without training and with a free entry-level plan for SMEs – specifically for German mid-sized, cleaning and trade businesses.
Can I test YellowTime for free for my company?+
Yes. The Free plan includes time tracking, digital timesheets and the mobile app – no credit card, no time limit. Premium features such as automatic surcharge calculation and advanced reports are available from €3/month per employee.
Does time tracking also work without internet on the construction site or at the customer?+
Yes. The mobile app stores bookings locally on the smartphone and synchronizes automatically as soon as mobile data or Wi-Fi is available again – ideal for service technicians, tradespeople and cleaners in areas with poor reception.
How long does the setup take for a small company?+
Usually under 10 minutes: create the company, invite employees via email, set up working time models, done. Existing employee master data can be imported via CSV. No training is required.
